Ægissíða, a farm on the western banks of the Rangá river. There are 11 man–made caves in the home–field, one of them large and used for storing hay up until 1980. Some of the caves have peculiar carvings on the walls, believed by some to have been made by Irish hermits before the settlement in the 9 th century. There was a ford on the Rangá near Ægissíða, and this used to be a muchtravelled route.
