Arnardalur, a lovely, broad valley west of the Fjallgarðar ranges, with good flat land, spring–fed rivers and areas of vegetation. North of the valley, there are two gravel ledges with a particularly well–formed glacial ridges on the northern one, west of the road. The crossroads at Ytra–Mynni are on the southern one. At the eastern end of the valley, accessible by jeep–track, are the ruins of the farm, Dyngja. Þorsteinn jökull was said to have fled to there at the time of the plague, around 1500. From the south of Arnardalur a jeep–track goes along Álftadalsdyngja to Brúarjökull and along Brúardalir east to Jökuldalur.
