Arnarneshamar

Arnarnes, the outermost point of land on Skutulsfjörður. To the east is Arnarneshamar, a basalt cape, through which the first road tunnel in Iceland was made in 1948 and remained the only one until the Strákagöng tunnel near Siglufjörður in 1967 (see Road 76). Length c. 35 m. The British trawler Cæsar stranded off Arnarnes in April 1971 causing considerable oil pollution which killed many birds.
