One of Iceland’s best-preserved turf houses can be found here. It is privately owned by artist Hannes Lárusson. A cultural institution honouring the heritage of turf homes is being established at Austur- Meðalholt. This will be in the form of exhibitions including photographs, drawings and models as well as the old farmstead made up of 8 buildings. International workshops teaching skills in the maintenance of turf houses and other sustainable buildings.
