Axlarhyrna

Öxl, a farm above Búðir below the steep scree mountain Axlarhyrna (433 m) where Axlar-Björn (“Björn from Öxl”) lived in the 16th century. He was Iceland’s most notorious murderer, said to have killed 18 people, mostly travellers to whom he offered hospitality. At Öxl is Ásmundarleiði, where the settler Ásmundur is said to be buried. Fine view of Faxaflói.
