Bjólfur, (1,085 m) a mountain named after the first settler in this fiord. On the highest peak of the mountain there was supposedly a temple in ancient times. Snow and mud avalanches have often fallen from the steep mountainsides that surround the town, sometimes with catastrophic consequences. Now, avalanche protection walls have been built in the Bjólfur mountainside and a snow avalanche inspector is posted in Seyðisfjörður all year round. It is possible to drive up there by a summer road, spectacular view.
