Bræðratunga, a farm and church, often the home of chieftains and outstanding men, such as Ásgrímur Elliðagrímson in Njáls saga, Earl Gissur Þorvaldsson, and the lawyers Gísli Hákonarson (1583–1631) and later Magnús Sigurðsson (1651–1707) known for his cases against Professor Árni Magnússon of Copenhagen, cf.
