Eldborg

Eldborg, a nicely shaped crater about 30 min. walk from the highway, ca. 100 m above sea–level, from which the big Eldborgarhraun (Eldborg lava) flowed. Eldborg is believed to have erupted once many thousand years ago and again in settlement times, as mentioned in Landnámabók (“The Book of Settlements”). It is a protected natural feature.
