Fremri–Kot, a farm in Norðurárdalur and now the only farm on the north side of the river. Ytri–Kot, abandoned after a big landslide in 1954, is believed to be the Þorbrandsstaðir mentioned in Landnámabók (“The Book of Settlements”), a farm where food was free for all travellers
