Birthplace of the grammarians Dr. Guðbrandur Vigfússon (1827–89), who worked in Copenhagen and Oxford and completed an Icelandic–English Dictionary often associated with Cleasby, and Björn Guðfinnsson (1905–50), an effective and influential grammarian who wrote text–books on his subject.
