Geitastekkur, a farm in Hörðudalur, now called Bjarmaland. Birthplace of Árni Magnússon (1726–1810) one of the best–travelled Icelanders ever. As a young man he travelled to Denmark, Greenland, France, Russia, Turkey, China and elsewhere, and was a soldier in Russia and Turkey among other places, ending up as a school teacher in Denmark. He wrote a notable book describing his adventures, which is at the same time a remarkable description of his period.
