Glerá

Glerárdalur, a long uninhabited valley above Lögmannshlíð, surrounded by the highest mountains in the north of Iceland, the highest being Kerling (1,538 m), Tröllafjall and Vindheimajökull from 1,100 to 1,400 m high. Magnificent outdoor area both in summer and winter. The Akureyri Ski Resort is on the lower slopes of the mountain Hlíðarfjall. Fossils have been found in the valley. The river Glerá emerges from the valley and flows through the northern outskirts of Akureyri.
