Grímsstaðir á Fjöllum, (“Grímsstaðir in the mountains”) a farm at a crossroads in the district Fjöll (“Mountains”), or Hólsfjöll, long an important resting place for travellers in this area. Before the bridge was built over Jökulsá there was a ferry point on the river, supervised from Grímsstaðir.
