Grísatunga

Grísatunga, an abandoned farm above Þinghóll, a crossroads of the major horseback trails of old. One trail went up the Langavatnsdalur valley, the other up along the Gljúfurá river, behind the mountains and down by Hraundalur in the Hraunhreppur district. Before the roads were laid the latter way was often chosen so as to avoid the marshes in the Mýrar district. These bogs and marshes were so notorious that farmers from the upper reaches of the Borgarfjörður lands would make their pack–horse trips to the market town very early in the spring, while the ground was still frozen, travelling as much as two months earlier than most people.
