Tungnaá, a glacial river coming from the west side of Vatnajökull. Formerly a serious obstacle for travellers, which could only be crossed by ferry at Hald and Bjallavað and forded at Hófsvað. Two power stations have been built on Tungnaá at Sigalda and Hrauneyjafoss.
