Háreksstaðir

Háreksstaðir, an abandoned farm on Jökuldalsheiði which was first built in 1841 by Jón Sölvason (1803–1864). Prior to that time the place was the site of medieval farm ruins. Háreksstaðir was the first farm built in this area in the 20th century and among the most succsessfull ones before it was abandoned in 1925. Several tales exist about the people who lived in the area long ago. There is a sheep pen used by the people of Vopnafjörður to sort out their sheep.
