Haugsöræfi, a mountain range east of Hólsfjöll, up to 1,000 m high. There is a large lake there called Haugsvatn. An old route, about 70 km long, went across there between Vopnafjörður and Hólsfjöll, Vopnafjörður then being the trading post for the farmers. The mountain range gets its name from one of its peaks, Haugur (965 m).
