Herdísarvík, formerly a substantial farm with much seafishing. The craggy mountain Herdísarvíkurfjall, from which much lava has flowed, above the farm.
The poet Einar Benediktsson (1864–1940) lived there in later life, and died there. He is buried in the national graveyard at Þingvellir.
Herdísarvík is now owned by the University of Iceland.
