Hergilsey, an island with geothermal heat, site of some of the events of Gísla saga Súrssonar. In the year 1910 an English trawler captain kidnapped the director of the district council in Hergilsey and took him to England, along with the sheriff of Barðastrandasýsla–county. They had, in the line of duty, rowed out to the trawler in an open rowing boat with the intention of arresting the captain for breaking the law by fishing within territorial waters.
