Heydalir, often called Eydalir, a farm, church and parsonage, formerly considered one of the richest parishes in Iceland. Among the best known clergymen of Heydalir was the poet Einar Sigurðsson (1538–1626) who wrote one of the most popular of all Icelandic Christmas hymns. Above the road is Staðarborg the first community centre in Breiðdalur. Beautiful walking trails connect Heydalir and Staðarborg.
