Hofsárdalur, the westernmost and biggest of the Vopnafjörður valleys, broad at the mouth but narrowing into Fossdalur. Hofsá is a good fishing river. To the east is a low ridge, to the west high mountains, Smjörfjöll (“Butter mountains”) (1,251 m). Grassy, fertile farming area.
