Hraunsvatn

Hraun, a farm in the hills on the west side of the river, birthplace of Jónas Hallgrímsson (1807–45), naturalist and one of the most important Romantic poets in Iceland. Hrauns­vatn, a good trout–fishing lake 50–60 m­ deep, is in the valley behind the hills. Hall­grímur, father of Jónas, drowned in it.
