Hrútafjarðará, a long river with many tributaries, originating in the lakes of the Holtavörðuheiði and Tvídægra moors. Forms the boundary between the counties Vestur–Húnavatnssýsla to the east and Strandasýsla and Mýrasýsla to the west and south. A well–known salmon river.
