Vonarskarð, (“Hope pass”) a mountain pass, really more of a wide valley between the two glaciers Vatnajökull and Tungnafellsjökull, 900 to 940 m above sea level, 15–20 km long and with about 13 km distance between the two glaciers. Skjálfandafljót and Kaldakvísl come from Vonarskarð.
