Karl

Núpskatla, a farm beside the lake below the crater Rauðinúpur. Birthplace of the novelist Guðmundur Magnússon (1887-1918), whose penname was Jón Trausti. Rauðinúpur, (73 m) a high crater at the northwestern tip of the Melrakkaslétta plains, erupted late in the Ice Age. Steep cliffs with many seabirds towards the sea but grassy at the inland end. At the northeastern corner is Karl, a big pinnacle rock, sometimes called Jón Trausti, for the novelist.
