Kerlingarskarð,(“Old woman pass”) a pass (311 m) over the Snæfellsnes mountain range. The pass is named after a rock named Kerling. A folktale tells of a giantess of the troll type who was on her way home with her catch after a good nights fishing in the lake when she was caught by the sun and turned to stone. She can still be seen, her line of trout over her shoulder, on a ridge of the mountain Kerlingarfjall opposite the mountain Hafrafell, at the north end of the pass. There is also a fine view from that end of the pass. Burial mounds.
