Ketilsstaðir

Ketilsstaðir, a farm, formerly the seat of district judges, also formerly a church and a free church. Now a horse farm. New farms are being built nearby. One of several noted judges from Ketilsstaðir was Pétur Þorsteinsson (1720–95). He was among those who imported reindeer and he had a number of books written and printed, especially religious works, hymns etc. His son was Sigurður Pétursson (1759–1827), a poet and playwright whose plays were the first to be printed in Iceland (1844 and later).
