Kolviðarhóll, formerly a popular resting place for travellers across Hellisheiði, first with a primitive shelter and later an inn. Still later Kolviðarhóll became a popular ski lodge, but it is now deserted. From the road bend by Kolviðarhóll a rock formation resembling a well–known Icelandic poet, Matthías Jochumsson the author of the national anthem, can be seen in the mountainside to the south.
