Kóngsgarður

Fossar, (“Waterfalls”) a farm in the Fossadalur valley, about 2 km south of Stafnsrétt, a sheep–gathering pen at 320 m above sea level. Long the home of moorland shepherds. From there it is possible to go by jeep to the lake Aðalmannsvatn and Álfgeirstungur, also by another track via Fossabrekka north of the glacier Hofsjökull. Near Fossar is the abandoned farm Kóngsgarður, birthplace of Sigurbjörn Sveinsson (1887–1950), popular author of children’s books.
