Kristnitökuhraun

Kristnitökuhraun, (“Conversion lava”) a lava–field on Hellisheiði that came from a 6.5 km long fissure east of the mountain Reykjafell. According to the Sagas, the eruption started in the year 1000 while Icelanders were discussing at the Althing at Þingvellir whether to convert from paganism to Christianity. Hence the name.
