Leirhöfn, a substantial farm, well–cultivated land. The farmer Helgi Kristjánsson (1894–1982) built a private library of about 10 thousand volumes which he gave to the county. It is now kept at Snartarstaðir at Kópasker. An excellent natural harbour, and harbour construction at nearby Nýhöfn for the many small boats that go fishing from there. Around 1950 farms were built there.
