Lúdentsborgir

Lúdentsborgir, a row of craters east of Mývatn. They are a continuation of Þrengslaborgir, having erupted at the same time. Named for the explosion crater Lúdent to the southwest, which has a diameter of 600–800 m and depth of 60–70 m. The crater rims rise about 100 m above the surrounding terrain. In 1968 Lúdentsborgir was the training area for Neil Armstrong and other astronauts before the moon landing.
