Melar, a farm and, until 1855, a church but the site is now much eroded by the sea. Served by Helgi Sigurðsson 1815 (1808–88), who was the major force in the establishment of the National Museum and the first Icelander to study photography, which he did in Copenhagen alongside his academic studies 1842–45.
