Náttfaravíkur, bays beneath the Víknafjöll mountains. The Book of Settlements relates how, when Garðar Svavarsson, one of the first Norsemen to visit Iceland, spent the winter in Húsavík, a boat broke free from his ship, and in it, a man called Náttfari, and a slave and a slave–woman, came ashore. Náttfari settled in Náttfaravíkur for a time, later moving to Reykjadalur, from where he was driven when other settlers arrived.
