Örlygsstaðir, an important historical site with some ruins a short distance above the home–field of Víðivellir.
This was the scene of one of the most fateful battles of old, Örlygsstaðabardagi, in 1238, when Sturla Sighvatsson was killed together with his father and brothers and about 60 others. Memorial to the battle.
