Papós, the outlet from Papafjörður in the land of Syðri–Fjörður. Formerly a fishing station and a trading place 1860–97. There was a boarding school there from 1898 to 1899. South of the ruins of this village are older ruins, Papatættur, said to be the remains of the buildings of Irish hermits from before the settlement
