Péturskirkja

Péturskirkja, (“Pétur’s church”) a shelter for sheep herders, built by the farmer Pétur Jónsson in 1925. Gunnar Gunnarsson´s novel Aðventa (The Good Shepherd) takes place in this area, telling the story of Benedikt Sigurjónsson (Fjalla–Bensi, or “Mountain–Benny”) searching for sheep in late December. He spent Christmas Eve in the old shelter beside Péturskirkja.
