Skarð, a historic manor farm which has been in the possession of the same family since the 11th century, and probably from the first settlement days. Original settler Geirmundur heljarskinn, the noblest of the original settlers. Skarð was best know when Björn Þorleifsson, sub–governor, and his wife Ólöf Loftsdóttir lived there in the 15th century. In the church is an altarpiece together with other valuable objects believed to have been donated by Ólöf. Two famous vellum manuscripts come from Skarð, both called Skarðsbók, the Law–book and the Sagas of Saints. A small harbour nearby where there was once a trading post, also a lignite mine.
