Snæfell

Snæfell, (1,833 m) the highest mountain in Iceland after Vatnajökull, conspicuous, with fine views from the top. An old volcano, the peak snow–covered. Local people say when it is clear over Snæfell in the evening, you can depend on good weather the next day. The local touring club has built a hut near the river Grjótá on the west of Snæfell. It is in this area that the majority of Iceland’s wild reindeer are found (see Road F909).
