Svalbarðseyri

Svalbarðseyri, (pop. 271) a village. A former trading place and a herring–salting station. At Svalbarðseyri you will find a meat processing plant, a base for contractors, public service, a guesthouses, an elementary school, a swimming pool and sports facilities. There is a beautiful forest grove at the turn–off to Svalbarðseyri as well as Safnasafnið, an interesting folk art gallery, housed in the old local assembly building, displaying folk art and special collections like embroidery, models, souvenirs, books, dolls, toys and tools. The museum is open during the summer.
