Þiðrandaþúfa

Njarðvík, the northernmost bay on the Eastern fjords, with a grassy, wooded valley at its head. A farm of the same name, frequently mentioned in local folklore, near which there is an ancient ruin, Þorragarður, said to date from Saga times, also some burial mounds. Þiðrandi Geitisson is said to have been slain at Þiðrandaþúfa (“Þiðrandi’s hillock”) at the farm Borg. Two skerries, called Gunnarssker, in the bay named for Gunnar Þiðrandabani (“Þiðrandi’s bane”). There used to be a small turf–roofed church in Njarðvík; it was demolished in the middle of the 20th century.
