Þingey

Fosssel, an abandoned farm on Fljótsheiði, quite far to the north of the road. Extensive birchwoods, now protected by the Forestry Service. The view from there is good especially across to the island Þingey, used of old for official gatherings, in the Skjálfandafljót river on the west side. According to the Sagas the settler Bárður towed his ships up the Skjálfandafljót river to Skipapollur (“Boat pool”) below Þingey.
