Þingeyrar

Þingeyrar, a manor farm of great historical importance, the most important in Húnavatnssýsla county, with more land than most other farms in Iceland, meadows and pastures. Salmon and seal. A stone church built 1864-65 by Ásgeir Einarsson, member of parliament, containing many fine relics. An ancient assembly site, and the site of the first monastery in Iceland, Þingeyraklaustur, established 1133. It was one of the foremost educational centres of that time, the place where more Sagas were written down than anywhere else.
