Þorgeirskirkja

Ljósavatn, (“Lake of lights”) a deep lake, 3.28 km 2 , good fishing. Farm of the same name. In the year 1000 the home of the lawspeaker and chieftain Þorgeir, who threw his idols into Goðafoss after having converted to Christianity. A new church, Þorgeirskirkja, was consecrated there in summer 2000, marking the 1000 th anniversary of the conversion of Iceland.
