Þverá

Þverá, a manor farm, mentioned in early history. A church of hewn stone, built 1878, with an altar-piece by Arngrímur Gíslason. The first cooperative in Iceland, Kaupfélag Þingeyinga, was founded at Þverá in 1882 in a turf farm house which is still standing, built in the latest half of the 19 th century. In the keeping of the National Museum since 1968.
