Þverfell, (655 m) a large tuff mountain at the head of the Lundarreykjadalur valley. At its eastern base is Reyðarvatn, a trout–fishing lake. At the foot of the mountain is a farm of the same name, the birthplace of Kristmann Guðmundsson (1901–83), novelist. He lived in Norway for years and wrote a great many novels in Norwegian. His books have been translated into many languages.
