Viðfjörður

Viðfjörður, a fjord stretching south from the Norðfjörður bay where there was a farm of the same name, abandoned since 1955. The same family had lived there since 1750. The farm was said to have been haunted for centuries, the second quarter of the 20th century seeing particularly frequent and violent supernatural activity. Some blame these ghosts for the death by drowning of three brothers in 1936. The author Þórbergur Þórðarson (1889–1974) wrote about these ghosts in Viðfjarðarundrin (“The Viðfjörður wonders”).
