The Westfjords
Iceland Road Atlas: Region 6
Driving the roads in the Westfjords is both terrifying and breathtaking at the same time. Considered to be Icelands most remote area and only connected to the rest of Iceland by a 7km wide isthmus the nature here is just as wild as it was during the first settlement.
The lack of lowlands makes this region unsuitable for agriculture so fishing is the main industry. The deep and long fjords, majestic mountains and rich vegetation make a beautiful view while driving to the isolated fishing villages in the Westfjords.
This region is known for its amazing landscape and there are numerous attractions in the area. Ísafjörður is the capital of the Westfjords and is a perfect base for exceptional adventures in this remote part of the country.
