Æðey, the biggest island in Ísafjarðardjúp, 1.26 km2, just off the Snæfjallaströnd coast. One of the main breeding grounds of the eider duck in Iceland, fertile, good landing place, pretty scenery. In 1615 some shipwrecked Spanish sailors settled there. After they had been rather aggressive, Ari Magnússon of Ögur attacked them with a force of men, killing them all dishonourably, some on Æðey, others at Sandeyri on Snæfjallaströnd.
