Vinaskógur

Vinaskógur, (“Friends’ wood”) a grove of trees on the land of Kárastaðir. Trees planted there are all associated with the President of Iceland and are the gifts of foreign friends. It is customary for foreign heads of state who visit Iceland to plant a tree there. Vinaskógur was started on the 60th birthday of President Vigdís Finnbogadóttir when the foreign embassies in Iceland, under the leadership of the German Ambassador, together gave Iceland a birch grove in honour of the President.
